Duke Math Mentoring Program Founder and Mentor
This program works to make the Duke math department a collaborative unit with a culture of mentoring. Everyone in the department is welcome to participate! Each semester starts with a "speed mentoring" event that follows a typical speed dating format. Participants are given a few minutes to talk about themselves or answer questions from a prompt. After the event, participants fill out a survey about their mentor preferences, mathematical interests, and career goals. Mentoring rings are made with either faculty, postdoctoral faculty, and graduate students or with graduate and undergraduate students who are at different places in their programs. Afterward, mentoring rings meet approximately once a month for coffee.
Graduate Faculty Seminar Co-organizer
Graduate-Faculty Seminar is a weekly seminar in the Duke Mathematics Department. Speakers are usually either graduate students, postdoctoral, or faculty from the Duke Mathematics Department. The goal of this seminar is to welcoming and supportive environment for graduate students to give a research talk and to expose graduate students to the diverse and vibrant research going on in the department. Ideally, presentations at this seminar would be at a level accessible to graduate students earlier on in their careers. This will help young graduate students find advisors and research areas.
Triangle Area Graduate Mathematics Conference (TAGMaC ) Co-organizer
TAGMaC is a biannual conference organized by and for graduate students. Each semester, the conference alternates between Duke University, North Carolina State University, and the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. The goal is to encourage communication amongst graduate students in the Triangle and provide a place for graduate students to practice giving short research talks in a low pressure environment.
